The 27th Annual Hart House Literary Contest
Submit your short fiction piece of no more than 3,000 words to the Hart House Hall Porters Desk by Midnight, January 23rd, 2009. The contest is open to all Hart House Members in good standing, (Students at all levels of study, Senior or Joint Plan members), excluding judges and professional writers of fiction and non-fiction, i.e. those who have earned more than $1000 for their writing. The winning stories will be published in the Hart House Review. The winning authors will be announced at the Hart House Review Launch and contacted by the Hart House Literary and Library Committee in April 2008. All entrants will be invited to the Review Launch and Awards Presentation evening which will take place in April. 1st Prize: $150, 2nd Prize: $100, 3rd Prize: $50
The 2009 Hart House Poetry Prize
Submit your poems (or groups of poems) of no more than 250 lines to the Hart House Hall Porters Desk by Midnight, January 23rd, 2009. The competition is open to all Hart House Members in good standing, (Students at all levels of study, Senior or Joint Plan members), who have not published a book of poetry or the equivalent of 48 pages or more, perfect bound. The winning poems will be published in the Hart House Review. The winning authors will be announced at the Hart House Review Launch and contacted by the Hart House Literary and Library Committee in April 2008. All entrants will be invited to the Review Launch and Awards Presentation evening which will take place in April. 1st Prize: $150, 2nd Prize: $100, 3rd Prize: $50

Note that these contests and the Hart House Review are separate entities, related to each other only as sub-groups under the Literary and Library Committee at Hart House. The Hart House Review's relationship to the contests is limited to the publication of the winning entries in its annual journal. They are not responsible for the organization of the contest, selection of the winning submissions, and the awarding of the prizes.
