A Hypochondriac’s Complaint

Albert R. Gaudio

My feet fall asleep.
All the time, the right one especially.
It’s serious.
Sitting cross-legged, like they used to make you do in school
as a kid,
that only makes it worse.
It’s serious.

Your feet fall asleep when bloodflow
is interrupted.
That means my bloodflow
is interrupted
whenever my feet fall asleep.
Which they do all the time.
It’s serious.

Bloodflow can be interrupted by a weak heart.
My bloodflow is often interrupted,
when my feet fall asleep.
I must have a weak heart.
All the cross-legged sitting can only have made that worse.

It’s serious.
